Made on an intimate scale, my paintings reflect the pathos in the everyday. I want to explore the life, and death, of animals as a crucial quality of the human experience. When my childhood dog died, I painted her obsessively. A repetitive, almost ritualistic, practice became a channel to process my grief. I began to examine the concept of memorialising animals - deification through the extravagance of oil paint. Quietly camp, my practice toys with painting animals as a genuine act of devotion.
